Ubico Networks’ Udit Mehrotra Bags Young Innovative Telecom Entrepreneur Award at National Telecom Awards July 27, 2009

New Delhi, July 25, 2009: Udit Mehrotra, Director, Ubico Networks has bagged the Young Innovative Telecom Entrepreneur Award at the National Telecom Awards 2009. The Awards were given away by Shri Gurudas Kamat, Hon’ble Minister of State for Communications & IT at a glittering ceremony that was attended by the who’s who of the Indian telecom Industry. The august gathering comprised top policymakers and bureaucrats, top executives and decision makers from Telecom and IT companies, and the media. Organised by Communications & Manufacturing Association of India (CMAI) and Infocom the National Telecom Awards is a major telecom event in India, and has the support of apex telecom, ICT hardware, internet and operators’ associations in India and international associations.

At a young age of 29, Udit Mehrotra has carved a niche for himself in the telecom arena because of his deep understanding of the industry and various path-breaking innovations. He founded Ubico Networks in early 2007 as an innovation to service the changing real estate and in-building mobile communication landscape in India. He conceived Ubico and created India’s first independent in-building infrastructure provider of on-demand mobile coverage for operators. In his current role, Udit provides strategic guidance and direction to the company. In a short span of just 2 years, his initiative and vision have established Ubico as the leading name in neutral-host infrastructure providers of in-building and in-campus communications in the country.

Along with Ubico, Udit serves on the Board of Vihaan Networks limited (VNL) and Citycom Networks.

In 2008, Udit led the Shyam Group’s acquisition of Spectranet, an ISP division of Punj Lloyd Limited, with the vision to revolutionize the market for retail and enterprise data & IP services in India. Since acquiring Spectranet, he founded Citycom, India’s first independent intra-city carrier of carriers, building a world-class optical fiber network across all the major metros in India. He also led Shyam Telecom’s winning bid for the acquisition of Low Power GSM license in the UK in 2006, a first of its kind in the world. Prior to this he led NGMA, one of India’s first Value-Added Services providers delivering innovative content to mobile operators.

With a keen understanding of market dynamics, technology and trends, Udit continues to lead the Group’s foray into new markets, exploring new possibilities.

Udit holds a MSc. in Telecommunication Management and a B.E. in Electrical Engineering from the Stevens Institute of Technology, NJ,USA.

The National Telecom Awards recognise and salute the nation builders who have contributed to the path breaking growth of telecom sector in India.
